Acomplia(Rimonabant) is a medication that treats very well obesity by making people to eat less has been launched in the UK.

Acomplia(Rimonabant) is the first drug that can reduce  the body’s appetite, metabolism and energy that we can use. Trials have proved that it can reduce weight by a tenth.

UK Experts think that acomplia(rimonabant) does  not  have the property to replace healthy food and sport exercise.

In this country , statistics showed that one in five men and a quarter of women are obese.

The cost of acomplia(rimonabant) in very big,about over £55 for a month’s treatment and this it may go to a  cost of billions of pounds of money for the NHS.

The drug is going to be assessed by NHS advisers the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence.

The review is going to be given sometime in the next two years and NHS bosses warned the public that is not good to expect its widespread use right away.

The chief executive of the NHS Confederation,Gill Morgan, said primary care trusts may be reluctant to prescribe the medication despite of NICE guidance.

“PCTs receive a fixed sum of money to put to the diposition of their local community all the services and have to asume very hard decisions on competing priorities.”

Also she said that weight loss was “predominantly about diet and sport exercise”.

The producer of acomplia(rimonabant), Sanofi Aventis, has said that the drug represents the best value for money when set against the £7bn per year cost of living behind obesity.

In a lot of trials that were involving more than 6,000 patients in the US and Europe, a quarter lost more than 10% of their initial body weight only in a year. About half lost more than 5% in the same period.

Some other anti-obesity drugs are available at this moment, but acomplia (rimonabant) is the only one to target the endocannabinoid system, whichis responsible with the body’s appetite.

Side effects of acomplia(rimonabant) in some patients are some like nausea, dizziness and anxiety.
